At the end of the day, my lasting impressions of the July 31 [2007] Collier School Board meeting were:
Linda Abbott, the ultimate politician on the board, should be awarded an Oscar for her performance on the vote process: First, “I vote no,” and then, “I vote yes.”
Abbott’s “struggling” was for the cameras, but her real struggle was about her inner conscience reminding her she had helped set this whole firing mess in motion and she had to vote yes.
This was a no-class performance by the board majority and an embarrassment for the citizens of Collier County.
We deserve better.
