Bottom line
Editor, Daily News:
I am thrilled that the Collier County School Board members have identified a potential savings of anywhere from $3.2 million to $5.69 million, depending on whether they privatize the custodial services or the Teamsters Union decides to switch the insurance plan from self-insured to insurance companies.
However, I am less thrilled to know that we taxpayers have paid millions of dollars when these potential options and savings were available. How many more millions are being wasted because of poor management by the school district?
This is typical of government trying to run a business. It is easy to just tax the public for more money rather than running an efficient operation.
Educating our young people is important, and the teachers deserve a proper salary. But waste because of mismanagement is inexcusable.
