The next logical step
Editor, Daily News:
With the changes that school "czar" Dennis Thompson has been making, I’m wondering if any thought has been given to the cost of merging Collier County Public Schools with the school system from which he came in Rockford, Ill.
The new title: The Collier County/Rockford, Ill. School District.
It will have to appear on all printed material, as well as on the administrative center itself.
This will incur an expense, but the prevailing thinking seems to be if it’s for Thompson, fine; we’ll go along with it.
But, since that is a pretty long and unwieldy title, perhaps the new name could be shortened to the Dennis Thompson District.
It’s more concise and definitely more accurate.
Thompson makes a decision, often based on Rockford connections, and then implements policy as if there were no School Board or community with which to consult.
For the record, I’m retired, have no children in the public school system, don’t know any of the participants in the many School Board disputes. I’m just an interested citizen who happens to think that the current administration does not concern itself with the public good or public perception.
